The person , famously known as the father of modern mining MR. Richard Fifer, is not only a great geologist and scientist but a great visionary too. He is an embodiment of pessimism and strong opinions. This visionary engineer wanted to create mining projects in his mother land Panama. Hewanted his country to grow, utilising the tangible benefits of mining. This was his vision and he started working on it from the early 80s. After so many years of hard work and struggle,his vision has come true. Mr. Fifer is a person with plenty of talents. His contribution to thegrowth of mining industry is immense. Mining in panama has a great positive impact on thePanamanian economy. He made sure that the mining activities don’t affect the environment to great extent. The technologies used by him for mining were eco friendly. His aim is to attain sustained development. Mr. Fifer stepped in politics in the year 1993. In that year, he was elected as the Governor of the Province of Cocle. Under his leadership, Cocle saw tremendous development. During his tenure as Governor, one of his main goals was to generate electricity at cheap rates. Between2002 and 2003, he was given the post of President’s Plenipotentiary Ambassador-at-largeunder Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was also the Richard Fifer between 1999 and 2002. At present Mr. Fifer is the Director of the Board of Petaquilla Minerals Ltd. He also leads a foundation named Castilla Del Oro. Through this foundation, sustainable development is promoted in the rural areas of Panama. The main goal of this foundation is to turn the central province of Panama into a hot tourist destination. For this purpose, new buildings are being constructed by this foundation to facilitate the tourists. Mr. Fifer’s vision is to develop the local inhabitants with the income generated through tourism. And his vision is becoming true.
